Motorola TALKABOUT T62 Walkie Talkie Review

Motorola TALKABOUT T62 Two-Way Radio Review

The Motorola T62 is the mid-range option the Motorola two way radio collection. It offers an excellent hybrid of durability and excellent audio quality whilst still maintaining a budget friendly price-point. We wanted to see if it really stood up to what it claims at such excellent value. So, we would put it to the test in an in-depth review. Read on to see how we got on!

Range

The T62 offers a maximum of 8km range. As with all radios this is affected by objects in the line of sight, and particularly dense built-up areas. We tested this around our office in a built-up city centre and found we could get up to around 800m before the signal started to drop. As expected, when tested in the countryside this significantly increased, as we were comfortably getting between 3-4km range. In open fields with a clear line of sight you could well get close to the 8km range Motorola claim to offer.

Ease of use

The radios couldn’t be easier to use, and you can practically unbox and go. With the quick pairing button, you’ll be ready to go in seconds. Simply hold the button down and the radios will rapidly sync to each other and begin communicating on the same frequency. Although this radio is unlicensed the T62 has 16 channels with 121 sub codes, to help get around the frequency traffic. It comes with a user manual to take you through set up, however the buttons and layout are extremely user friendly and easy to get to grips with.

Features

The T62 has an excellent array of features for its price point. The radios come with a rechargeable battery meaning you won’t have to constantly shell out for new batteries. The rechargeable battery lasts for up to 16 hours which should be more than adequate for most users. However, it can also take AA batteries if you want to carry spares for a long adventure. The backlit LCD display also means you can see the screen clearly in low lit or night-time environments.

Although the radios do not come with a headset, it does include a 2.5mm jack if you want to use this to have more private conversations. Finally, the roger button function can come in handy, allowing you to confirm when a message has been received without needing to communicate verbally.

Motorola TALKABOUT T62: The Verdict

This is an outstanding option if you are looking for a budget friendly mid-range model. We are extremely impressed by what the Motorola T62 has to offer. With excellent audio quality as well as a host of handy features, this is ideal for outdoor and general use.
