Good range for the size

I bought these for a holiday in Spain so that I can keep in contact with a friend when we are within two or three hundred yards of each other without resorting to our phones. I tried a similarly sized Chinese pair that I found couldn't be relied on for more than 200 yards in my residential area. The area around me is mixed bungalow and two storey housing, backing onto fields. With one T72 on a ground floor window ledge I obtained the following results:

1) 500 yards residential - three different locations: The results were

Position1 : barely legible (probably the most obstacles)
Position 2: legible with hiss
Position3: Very clear

2)760 yards: this includes 270 yards residential and 490 yards rural. Clear with slight hiss.
3) 970 yards: including 730 residential and 240 open field. Very hissy with voice just legible.

Within 330 yards there was no problem with reception. I have a pair of Chinese PMR446 handhelds that beat the T72 for range but these are larger radios with longer antennas. These would not be handy to carry in pockets/light clothing, be as easy to use unobtrusively and I would need to pack clunky charging docks. The T72s are a goof compromise on size and range and I believe will do what I need them to.

Great little walkie talkies. Bought to replace an old pair of Motorola's that were twice the price and these are as good if not better!

Excellent compact walkie talkies

Ordered these walkie talkies to take on hikes and really happy with them. Nice and compact, very lightweight (and come with a little clip). Whilst not fully waterproof they have an IP54 rating so are weatherproof and Ive used them in moderate rainfall without any issues (though did take the time to dry them out fully afterwards). I dont use VOX so cant comment on how well that works. Range and battery life are excellent. Overall very pleased!
