Key features of the PS1350:

  • Call Blocking: With the ability to block up to 1,200 numbers, it’s perfect for protecting your peace of mind. Blocking unwanted calls requires just a single press, and users can customize the blocking list to include unknown or specific numbers.
  • Digital Answering Machine: Provides up to 60 minutes of recording time, ensuring you never miss an important message. Voice playback is straightforward, and users can manage messages directly from the handset. While this feature is relatively standard among cordless phones in this range, the ample recording time is a plus.
  • Volume Booster: An increasingly common feature nowadays as manufacturers cater to the needs of people still using home phones who often find them to be too quiet.
  • Caller ID and Call Management: The phone’s Caller ID functionality allows users to see the name, number, time, and date of incoming calls. It stores details for up to 100 missed calls, ensuring that users can easily keep track of who’s been trying to reach them. This feature works seamlessly, provided your telephone service includes Caller ID support.
  • Hands-Free Speakerphone: With just the touch of a button, the handset’s speakerphone enables hands-free conversations. Whether you’re multitasking at home or conducting a group discussion, the speaker delivers clear audio. However, the quality isn’t as sharp as higher-end models, occasionally sounding slightly hollow at maximum volume.

Design and Build Quality

The VTech PS1350 features a sleek and modern aesthetic that I think would blend well into most home or office environments. The handset has a 2.4-inch backlit colour display, which has become increasingly rare in home phones as demand for them has ebbed and it’s nice to see here. Personally, I find it makes it easier to see caller information and navigate menus. And the keypad follows is also backlit making it easy to see what you’re doing without having to turn on the big light.

The handset does feel a bit lightweight for what is supposed to be premium model but it’s comfortable to hold. And although it’s worth noting that the materials feel slightly less premium compared to some competitors, such as Gigaset’s higher-end cordless phones it’s no worse than more expensive models from BT and Panasonic.

Sound quality

VTech are probably better known for their baby monitors than their phones. Thankfully, they've brought their expertise with the former to the PS1350, and during testing we found the sound quality to be solid. Naturally, it's not up there with some of the more premium home phones on the market, but for the price point we thought it performed very well indeed. Even on loudspeaker mode, there wasn't a dip in quality, which can often be the case with less expensive handsets.

Performance and Battery Life

As with all modern home phones, the VTech PS1350 is powered by DECT technology, which ensures reliable call quality, decent range (up to 50 metres indoors and up to 300 metres outdoors) with minimal interference. In testing, the phone delivered consistent performance across a typical home environment. At the time of writing, we are yet to test the VTech PS1350 with the liGo Repeater so I’m unable to confirm for sure whether or not it’s possible to extend the range any further. The manual makes no mention of it being repeater compatible so we’ll assume that it isn’t for now, and I’ll update the article after we’ve tested.

Battery life is another area where the PS1350 performs well. The handset offers up to 22 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby time, which is more than sufficient for moderate use.

Verdict: Is the VTech PS1350 Worth It?

The VTech PS1350 Cordless Home Phone delivers on its promise of reliable performance, intuitive design, and effective call-blocking features at a reasonable price. While it’s not the most premium cordless phone on the market, its combination of practicality and affordability makes it an excellent choice for families, elderly users, and anyone seeking respite from spam calls.

If you’re looking for a no-fuss home phone that prioritizes usability and essential features over flashy extras, the VTech PS1350 is definitely worth considering.
