Pure Evoke Play DAB & Internet Radio with Bluetooth in Cotton White

I have to say this is a very impressive speaker and radio, which I'm pleased I purchased. My Cotton White version looks great, super nice sleek design, and has a surprisingly good overall sound quality. It was easy to set up, with a really clever flip-up screen, and it's simple to navigate the menu of options. After pairing it to my smartphone I could play music from it with so much more clarity. The Evoke Play can be used with or without mains connection, as it comes with a handy recharger pack, which is extremely useful. It also has Bluetooth and Spotify capabilities, to accentuate it's versatility. All in all, I definitely recommend it.

I have read some bad reviews about this speaker before getting it, so I have to admit I was worried. But was really positivelt surprised. The main issue the reviewer had was on overpowering bass. Well from my experience: this is a device intended to fill the open patio space or nice room with sound, and it is the existance of a true subwoofer as integral part of the device that enables you to get a truly powerfull sound - and if you are not keen on having a punch you can set the bass/treble levels and completely eliminate bass sound. (Works best in default settings). The unit came with battery extension that is rather pricey, but it is easy to install with a help of a screwdriver. once charge it will hold for a few days of occasional use (they say up to 12 hours, and that seems to be the case) It has anything you might need, so has a thin spotify client (the one you do not need an account for but rather can automatically transfer whatever you are playing on any spotify device on the same wifi network, very handy. yes it got wifi, and bluetooth. From radios it supports FM/DAB+ and internet radios/podcasts. you can setup all functions using built in oled display and a few control buttons, but I would strongly suggest downloading UNDOK, a smart radio application. you launch the app while connected on the same wifi and it will find the radio automatically, and give you the possibility to use all functions and more (ie it gives more preset buttons on the app than on the device). And since internet radio list is a big one, it is easier to search for your favourite stations on the mobile. Design is modern/retro, when you pick it up you can feel the weight of it (you need some weight to produce proper bass). it is quite loud and while I could only have a limited test on full volume due to neoghbours complaining - it did not produce any distorted sounds or made plastic crack.

I bought this speaker without having experienced any of the company’s other brands as i liked the look of it and it didn’t disappoint me at all as it exceeded my expectations. I loved the way it looked and the feel of the materials used were very smooth and it looked traditional along with a Mordern look. I love the way the buttons are on top and also the foldable screen protects the screen and other buttons to make it look very simple. I love the way the volume knob is lit so at night it’s easier to change the volume. The speaker front looks very nice and complements the speaker as they give out crisp and quality sound along with some base. You could feel the air coming out from the back. The size is perfect too for the speaker as it comes in two other sizes. The handle looks very nice and comfortable to hold as the texture of the material used is very smooth and pleasure to hold. It folds away behind so it’s out of the way when on a flat surface. The additional exciting thing is that it can be taken outside with a battery pack that last over six hours enough for that barbecue in the summer months without changing the quality of the sound. It’s also Bluetooth compatible and can be used with an app which helps a lot. We have already too many remote controls in the house so with the app we can change stations and sources along with setting preset channels we use regularly. The sound quality is very sharp and the base is loud and can be felt when closer to the device. It’s very loud and we only keep it in the middle level as we don’t like disturbing the neighbours. It also has an aerial at the back to catch channels when not using the DAB channels. It folds away perfectly at the back when not in use. Overall I would love the speaker to be a little lighter but saying that it’s not too heavy. When the handle is up the screen needs to be folded in so that’s a point to consider too as it catches the screen. However the screen can stay up when it’s on flat surface along with the handle hidden folded behind. Overall a 9/10 for me for style, sound and looks. Very compact speaker with the benefit of using outside.

It came in two well packaged boxes with a euro / uk adaptable plug which is really handy. Installation / set up was really easy, its essentially plug and play. Once plugged in it will take you through a simple on screen set up guide which will have you playing your favourite songs in minutes. During the set up process it allows you to connect to your WIFI which is great because you can access the internet based radio stations (too many to count!) but you don't have to if you don't want to. The DAB is really good on its own, I managed to get loads of stations. There is also the standard radio as well. The best bit for me though was the connectivity to Spotify and Bluetooth connections though. It was really easy to connect and have my apple music playing in seconds. You can also control the volume directly from your phone which is brill if you are sat away from the speaker. Now to the sound... For a small speaker it definitely packs a punch. Sound quality is great as well, even at higher volumes. The battery pack is a great add on, I like to move it round the home (and hopefully the garden in the summer) and the last thing i want is leads running everywhere. If I had to put forward a negative, the only thing I could possibly say is that it doesn't come with smart assistant or voice control which would be handy. It does however come with an app based interface so you can control from your phone so its not too much of a problem.
